Great Blogs to check: Global Voices Online

I write a little for Global Voices Online on matters related to Ghana. What distinguishes this news and information source is that it’s written by ordinary people like me living on the ground, close to stories that they write about. Also, their focus is social media like blogs, facebook, twitter, and so on. GV has been known to break stories before the mainstream media. What’s wonderful is that you can subscribe to their feeds by country or topic and also integrate them easily into your own blog so that live updates show up (like they do on This is Ghana http://gisforghana.blogspot.com) at your site. It’s worth spending time there searching through the archives and reading stories that the mainstream media often neglects. I’m not too embarrassed to admit that I didn’t realise that one of my favourite blogs related to Ghana, that I’d been reading for a while—My Heart’s In Accra—is written by one of the founders of GV. The author, Ethan Zuckerman, is one of the best writers I’ve read anywhere, but particularly online. Check out both Global Voices Online www.globalvoicesonline.org and http://www.ethanzuckerman.com.
