Volunteer Abroad Opportunities for Office Administrators and Environmentalists

This article continues on from where I left off a few days ago in the post about Volunteer Abroad Opportunities for teachers and IT professionals.

As I wrote then, researching this series of articles was as fascinating as it was inspiring. There are thousands of projects doing good work around the world where people with the right skills can travel to and lend a hand.

I’m going to excerpt from two articles I wrote about opportunities for administration assistants or office workers volunteering abroad, and also environmental volunteers.

The office volunteer story is close to my heart. This is because I was, essentially, an office worker before I left for Ghana five years ago. I had ten/twelve years experience in offices, all corporate environments. And my over-riding thought when I decided to volunteer somewhere after the tsunami hit was, “How would my office skills be of use anywhere?” I had no idea. So I really wrote that article for everyone like me five years ago, with no idea how those skills can translate to the developing world—way more than you can imagine.

An excerpt from Administration Volunteers Abroad:

“There may be overlap between tasks that can be undertaken by office administrators or writers. One of the exciting aspects of office administration work is that the office could be anywhere in the world, from Nepal, like the example above, to a conservation project in Uganda, to an elephant-care project in Sri Lanka.”

The environment is another of my passions, and I couldn’t miss a chance to write about opportunities for both amateur and professional environmentalists. Warning: If travel sites are blocked at your office, reading this series could cause serious pain.

More from Environmental Volunteer Abroad:

“Environmental issues are generally cross-disciplinary and may touch on health, housing, and education. If communities are lacking access to water, there will be ramifications for local health, schooling and housing development, for example. So, often environmentally oriented projects overlap thematically and practically with other areas too.”

There are many short- and long-term volunteer projects for those interested in environmental, green, eco and sustainable projects. Here are a few projects to help potential volunteers narrow their choice.”
